IBCLC Lactation Consultant | Healesville & Yarra Valley

Feeding your baby can come with questions and challenges at any stage of your journey. Whether you're preparing for feeding during pregnancy, navigating feeding difficulties, expressing, combination feeding, returning to work or considering weaning, having individualised support can help you better understand your options.

At Yarra Valley Women's Health, our International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) provides personalised, evidence-informed lactation and infant feeding support for families across Healesville and the Yarra Valley.

Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge, practical support and confidence to make informed feeding decisions that work for you, your baby and your family.

How Can a Lactation Consultant Help?

You don't need to wait until feeding becomes difficult to see a lactation consultant.

Our IBCLC lactation appointments may provide support with:

  • Antenatal breastfeeding and feeding preparation

  • Breastfeeding positioning and attachment

  • Latch concerns

  • Nipple pain or damage

  • Breast pain and feeding discomfort

  • Milk supply concerns

  • Expressing and pumping

  • Bottle feeding

  • Combination feeding

  • Breast refusal

  • Returning to work while breastfeeding

  • Introducing solids alongside breastfeeding

  • Weaning

  • Mastitis and recurrent breast inflammation

  • Feeding after a difficult birth or postpartum experience

  • General feeding questions and reassurance

Every feeding journey is different, and your appointment will be tailored to your individual concerns and goals.

What Happens During a Lactation Consultation?

Your lactation consultation gives you dedicated time to discuss your feeding journey, concerns and goals with our IBCLC.

Depending on your needs and your baby's stage, your appointment may include discussion and assessment of feeding history, positioning and attachment, feeding patterns, milk supply, expressing, bottle feeding or other factors relevant to your concerns.

You'll receive individualised education and practical strategies based on your presentation, with an opportunity to ask questions and better understand the options available to you.

Where further assessment or medical care is required, our IBCLC can also recommend or collaborate with other healthcare professionals as appropriate.

Support at Every Stage of Your Feeding Journey

Lactation support isn't only for the early weeks after birth.

You may benefit from seeing an IBCLC during pregnancy, in the early postpartum period or months into your feeding journey.

Support can also be valuable as your needs change—for example, when introducing expressing, returning to work, combination feeding, introducing solids or preparing to wean.

There is no "right" time to ask for support.
