Caesarean (C-Section) Scar & Abdominal Treatment | Healesville & Yarra Valley

C-Section-Scar-and-Abdominal-Release

A Caesarean birth involves several layers of abdominal tissue, and recovery can look different for everyone. While some people recover without ongoing concerns, others may notice pulling, tightness, sensitivity, numbness or changes in how their abdomen and scar feel.

At Yarra Valley Women's Health, our osteopaths provide personalised C-section scar and abdominal treatment to support your postpartum recovery, whether your Caesarean was recent or many years ago.

Once your Caesarean scar has appropriately healed, assessment can look at the scar itself as well as the surrounding abdominal tissues and movement.

You may consider a C-section scar assessment if you're experiencing:

  • Tightness or pulling around your scar

  • Scar sensitivity or tenderness

  • Numbness or altered sensation

  • Changes in scar or surrounding tissue mobility

  • Abdominal discomfort

  • Discomfort with movement or exercise

  • A feeling of restriction around the lower abdomen

  • Concerns about how your scar is recovering

You don't need to be experiencing pain to have your scar assessed. Some people simply want to better understand their scar and abdominal recovery following birth.

C-Section Scar Treatment

Abdominal Assessment & Treatment

Our assessment extends beyond the scar itself.

Pregnancy and birth can affect the abdominal wall, breathing mechanics, trunk function and the way you move. Depending on your presentation, we may assess your abdominal wall, Caesarean scar, ribs, pelvis, lower back and surrounding musculoskeletal structures.

Treatment may include:

  • Gentle scar and soft tissue techniques

  • Abdominal and surrounding tissue treatment

  • Mobility and movement strategies

  • Breathing and pressure management

  • Abdominal rehabilitation

  • Exercise prescription where appropriate

  • Education and self-management strategies

Your treatment plan will be individualised according to your symptoms, stage of recovery and goals.

When Can I Start C-Section Scar Treatment?

In the early stages after a Caesarean birth, the priority is allowing your incision and surrounding tissues to heal.

Direct scar treatment is generally considered once the wound has appropriately healed and there are no signs of infection or other complications. Your osteopath will assess your stage of recovery before beginning treatment directly over the scar.

If you're earlier in your postpartum recovery, there may still be other areas we can assess and support without working directly over your Caesarean scar.

And if your C-section was months or even years ago, it's not necessarily too late to have your scar and abdominal function assessed.

C-Section Recovery & Pelvic Health

Your abdominal wall and pelvic floor don't work in isolation.

Depending on your symptoms and goals, your postpartum assessment may also consider pelvic floor function, pressure management, bladder and bowel symptoms, pelvic organ prolapse and your return to exercise.

  • Individualised assessment of your caesarean scar, abdominal wall and movement patterns.

  • Gentle, hands-on treatment to support mobility, comfort and recovery.

  • Personalised advice and exercises to help optimise healing and restore confidence in movement.

  • Treatment tailored to your scar, abdominal wall and surrounding tissues to support your individual recovery goals.

  • Conveniently located in Healesville, welcoming patients from across the Yarra Valley.
