Pregnancy care and treatment

Pregnancy is an exciting and transformative time, both physically and emotionally. Your body undergoes rapid changes as it adapts to supporting your growing baby. One key change is the release of the hormone relaxin, which helps ligaments throughout your body soften and stretch, allowing your posture and joints to adjust to the increasing size and weight.

When your body adapts well to these changes, many parents-to-be experience minimal discomfort. However, if your body struggles to accommodate these shifts, it can place extra strain on the spine, neck, shoulders, and pelvic floor, leading to aches, tension, or other discomforts.

Our pregnancy-focused sessions aim to support your body through these changes, helping you stay comfortable and maintain function throughout your pregnancy. Treatments may include:

  • External osteopathic musculoskeletal therapy to relieve tension and pain

  • Pelvic floor assessment to monitor and support function

  • Internal pelvic release work where appropriate

  • Management of pelvic floor concerns, with guidance for ongoing care

These sessions are tailored to your individual needs, promoting comfort, wellbeing, and optimal pelvic and musculoskeletal function as your body adapts to pregnancy.

Postpartum care and treatment

Giving birth is a natural and incredible process, but it can place significant strain on the body. Even when birth goes smoothly, muscles, ligaments, and soft tissues can experience tension, soreness, or reduced function. Sometimes the body needs gentle support and targeted care to help it recover fully after the demands of labour and delivery.

Our postpartum sessions are suitable for anyone after their 6- 12 check, whether with us or another provider, and are tailored to your unique recovery needs. We can help with:

  • Scar management for caesarean or episiotomy scars

  • Persistent abdominal separation (DRAM)

  • Pelvic floor concerns, including incontinence or tension

  • Musculoskeletal discomfort, such as back, hip, or pelvic pain

Treatments may include external osteopathic therapy and, where appropriate, internal pelvic assessment and release work. These sessions aim to support healing, restore function, and help you feel comfortable and confident in your body as you navigate the postpartum period.

Postpartum 6 week check up

The 6-week postpartum check is an important milestone to review how your body is recovering after birth. While 6 weeks is a common guideline, the ideal timing for this session is between 6 and 12 weeks postpartum, depending on how you are feeling and your individual recovery. Every parent’s postpartum journey is different, and your body may need more or less time before this assessment is suitable.

During this appointment, we focus on evaluating key areas that can impact your long-term pelvic and musculoskeletal health:

  • Pelvic floor function – assessing strength, tone, and any areas of tension or dysfunction

  • Abdominal separation (DRAM) – measuring and checking recovery of the abdominal wall

  • Scarring – reviewing healing and mobility of caesarean or episiotomy scars

  • Musculoskeletal wellbeing – checking posture, lower back, hips, and general alignment

This session is tailored to your recovery and comfort level, allowing us to identify any concerns early and provide guidance or treatment as needed. Whether your birth was straightforward or more physically demanding, this check helps ensure your pelvic floor, abdominal muscles, and overall body are recovering optimally, giving you confidence and support as you navigate the weeks following birth.
